Obi Worldphone SF1 Launched : Should You Consider Buying it?

Obi Worldphone, company which is relative new in the indian market has launched their offering, Obi Worldphone SF1. The smartphone will be available exclusively via Gadgets360 ( Venture of NDTV group of networks).

Smartphone features a 5inch JDI In-Cell IPS display along with FHD 1080p resolution, amounting to 443ppi. Protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, you don’t have to worry about keeping the device in the same pocket with your keys. Device is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 processor and Adreno 405 which is suffice to say that you cannot expect the best multitasking experience however, you won’t experience any lag in normal day-to-day activities.

The Device launched with two variants, 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage for  storage expandability via MicroSD card, you get a slot for upto 64GB.

Featuring a 13MP rear camera with flash, Sony Exmor IMX214 Sensor, f/2.0 aperture, AF  and also a 5MP front unit. so looking at the numbers, the camera quality won’t disappoint you. Running on Android 5.0.2 with Obi’s own UI, the Lifespeed UI- it certainly ain’t the device running on the latest version of Android, already running two upgrades late of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Battery capacity is rated at 3000 mAh Li-Po so, it’ll take you through a day of moderate use.

The brand comes straight from Silicon Valley, co-founded by former head of Apple and Pepsi, It becomes compelling for it to deliver what is being expected of it, but the brand comes from a troubled past of making unhealthy partnerships in India and not being able to drive a great deal of consumer attention.

PRICING

The SF1 launch might be taken as their new start in India, with a great design the smartphone looks and feels amazing, with the hardware we are sure that it has all the ingredients of a mid-level smartphone, but with the pricing does’t seem to agree with us- you’ll have to pay 11,999 for 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 13,999 for 3GB RAM/32GB storage.

VERDICT

And at this price we already have better smartphones like Mi4, Asus Zenfone 2 etc with better hardware specifications and are already in the hands of  thousands of people who absolutely love them. Why it is that someone will be willing to give a relative new company a chance for more or less the same price? We give this smartphone a Kick and expect the company to price their products aggressively in the future.
