Google Cardboard: “Works with Google cardboard” Certification Started

Google Cardboard is your own foldable Virtual Reality kit made up of cardboard pieces, a magnet and two lenses. Now as its popularity is increasing everyday Google has come up with plans to make the idea standardized in order to remove fragmentation in the industry.

When put to simple words, Google cardboard is a piece of cardboard that is folded to create a Headgear- at the backside of this gear you’ll place your phone and then when you put this gear on, you’ll experience virtual reality, not magic just science. You’ll see images differently because of the presence of two lenses that will alter the focal length giving you a kind of 3D experience.

Google Cardboard

With many manufacturers making Google’s cardboard design make their own changes in order to stand out from the competition and that can cause issues with users and also with compatibility to applications and hardware, to eradicate these problems Google has come up with its cardboard certification program called “Works with Google Cardboard”.

This Program will aim at creating standard sizes and procedures to make this Virtual Reality experience Fun for all. With Android- Google made the mistake of not standardizing things and that has led to fragmentation and issues with consumers. Fragmentations is a term used to denote the lack of software support (updates) given to the consumers buy OEM or Carrier due to adding up of bloatware & code designing for specific device.

To remove these problems standardization was necessary and Google has worked out on every detail to make sure that no matter which Google cardboard you possess you get the same cardboard experience.

How Will it Work- Certification?

When you’ll purchase any Google cardboard certified as “works with Google cardboard” you’ll get a QR Code with the Board, all you’ll have to do is to scan it and it will adjust the Google application for as to provide you with the best cardboard experience. What happens is that the QR Code contains information regarding your Cardboard- height, focal length of lens and space between to adjust the visuals accordingly.
