AAP Government when making promises to the general public made it very clear that they aimed to make Delhi a smart-city, while same promises were made by BJP Government there seems to be no steps taken by the latter.
AAP Government under the supervision of Arvind Kejriwal is now steeping on their promises with news coming in that they have started to make strategies for Wi-Fi rollout in the capital. Though the situation is still not clear on how the service will be provided but some officials answered the questions on how and how much speed and data would be allowed.
The minimum speed allowed would be 512kbps, and the maximum data allowed for one device would be 50MB/day, though these are not the final decisions but it is safe to bet that the decisions would more or less be the same.
What’s the catch?
- Data cap- 50MB/day- more data? Pay for it.
- Max Download speed- 64 KB/s (taking 512kbps into account)
- No Video Playback- Pay for it.
- No Downloads- Pay for it.
- Only general browsing such as Facebook, WhatsApp, other social media and web surfing.
And, No Residential areas would be covered with Wi-Fi reception, this is aimed at public places and they have identified 1000 of these places, which would require at least 20-40k hotspots for uninterrupted services.
Wait, is this right?
Of Course it is, Delhi has more than 2 Core wireless devices and if this vision of the APP government follows, then Delhi would be the biggest smart-city in the world in terms of government supplied free Wi-Fi. Shanghai would stand at Number 2 with 4.5 lakhs devices, and that is far too less when we see the numbers here in Delhi.
And these things would cost government a big slice of their budget so they would be looking forward to make this a little cost-effective and that is where FUP of 50MB/day would help.
While still in process, the project would likely be on grounds in a year and we would see people using ‘free’ Wi-Fi in Delhi somewhere near early 2016.
This was our analysis of AAP government’s attempts to make Delhi a free public Wi-Fi city, what do you guys think? Let us know in the comment box below. Until next time, Keep Androtrending!
