As technology advances we see older techs getting updated, some getting obsolete and replaced. In this post we are going to talk about Li-Fi, and why we need to replace our wireless system- what are the problems we face in the current system, and why should we bother to change it. Why Li-Fi is the best solution, and why an LED bulb is more efficient than our beloved radio transmitters.

The LiFi system was proposed by Prof Harald Hass who demonstrated its working on a widely popular talk show ‘TED’. Harald has been working on the project from quite sometime now and his findings has been crucial to the subject, and in this post we shall discuss them in detail.

Conventional Radio Wave transmissions

Capacity

Conventional form of Transmission is mainly and strictly Radio in Nature, which means that it travels over radio waves in forms of singular data strings, including other parallel form of data communications that we have been using since the beginning of wireless communications.

Radio Transmission Tower

Radio Transmitters are the very fundamental units of this wholesome system, which act as relays and boosters to electromagnetic waves i.e radio waves, but here the problem of capacity arises- Radio waves are limited in perspective of our spectrum and that is something we are not equipped to upgrade, it’s nature and its scare. To be very real, we are running out of spectrum. In future we will have so dense spectrum that it won’t be able to cope with the rising demand of wireless data transmissions.

Efficiency

We live in a world with dying resources, everyday in the news scientist warn us of the increased use of Fossil Fuels and tell us that they would soon be depleted. We need something that won’t eat out whats remaining of it, we need something that is more efficient, which will help us to meet sustainable development, on the contrary Radio Transmitters, are not even close to be called as Efficient.

As Narrated by Harald Hass,”These 1.4 million cellular radio masts, or base stations, consume a lot of energy. And mind you, most of the energy is not used to transmit the radio waves, it is used to cool the base stations. Then the efficiency of such a base station is only at about five percent.

Yes, mere five percent of the energy is use for the actual purpose of transmission and the bigger part, ninety-five percent is used for cooling the station as they are prone to overheating- by the nature of radio waves.

Interference

As we go in a hospital and reach an examination room, the first thing doctor tells us is to switch off our mobiles, so as they can create negative interference in the performance of MRIs and other medicinal equipments.

While takeoff, we are asked to do the same task. So as to ensure our safety, interference with that kind of technology can costs lives of many innocent people and we ought to avoid that.

Security

Radio waves can go through walls, through water through any object other than some specifics that include special kinds of jammers coated with nanotube, carbon and feasible alloys of rare metals. This arises security issues, your Wi-Fi which is strictly for your family use can be manipulated and intercepted by someone who has the knowledge of doing so, someone who is familiar with spoofing can actually use your Wi-Fi and there are infinite ways to exploit that kind of technology.

So, What’s the alternative?

Harald said in the same speech,”and there we have these 14 billion light bulbs, light”. He was talking about his efforts with his company PureLiFi where they have harnessed the power of light to create another form of optical data transmission system called as Li-Fi.

What is Li-Fi?

Li-Fi is Light fidelity, which is an optical networking system that shall solve the problems that we face with the current wireless transmission systems, LED bulbs governed by a micro controller are used to transmit data using visible light waves resulting in better efficiency, capacity and speed.

As indicated by the image above, Radio waves have only a little part of the overall electromagnetic spectrum whereas the Visible Light had at least ten-thousand times greater part. This, solves our problem of capacity.

and we already have the infrastructure to implement the technology, we have almost 14 billion LED light bulbs (comparing to the 1.4 million radio transmitters) that are capable to harness the technology developed by Harald and his team. Light Bulbs everywhere.

How does this works?

LED bulbs are semi conductors and they have properties that help them to withstand electricity, also they can be manipulated to modulate their intensity at high speeds- at speeds that are impossible for human eye to catch. Which helps the receiver, with a photosensitive surface to register it as on or off and here we are at the basic of computing, the binary, the 0s and 1s.

but, it’s not that easy as it sounds, Harald has developed a technology called as SIM OFDM, which is much more complicated and has gained unimaginable speeds by relaying parallel data streams to a very sensitive film, getting 10Gbit/s.

Li-Fi Vs Conventional System

Capacity

Switching is never easy, but ten-thousand times more spectrum means more room for internet, which is nowadays a fundamental unit in our lives.

Efficiency

This technology already uses the same LEDs that are installed for the purpose of illumination, and to say that LEDs are most efficient when it comes to illumination won’t do any harm. We are using the same energy that would rather have been wasted is like using renewable energy rendering transmission costs null.

Interference

There are bulbs in Hospitals, Airports right? They don’t interfere with radio devices and possible next time we won’t need to switch those devices off, deploying Li-Fi.

Security

Unlike radio waves, light waves cannot penetrate through walls, they can bend and change direction until they lose energy but are uni-directional and secure.

Harald also told about the unimaginable possibilities of the technology, where in one case they can used by Automobile industry to prevent accidents by deploying in their HeadLights, where cars can communicate with each other preventing any kinds of mishaps.

Meizu company behind Meizu MX4- a smartphone that created a very loud buzz for being the most powerful smartphone in the world for a time- It ruled the Antutu leaderboard for a long time i.e more than 6 months and now the company is ready to set it foot here, in India with M1 Note.

And to its competition, the Xiaomi Mi 4i stands tall with a strong user base and company goodwill, the smartphone was launched and announced here in india- with their Delhi ‘I is coming’ launch event. We were lucky enough to get the invites and we experienced was a average smartphone labeled as Indian Flagship.

Coming to the Smartphones, The Meizu M1 Note and Xiaomi Mi 4i are both based on polycarbonate shell that can and will feel cheap in our hands, but with our encounters we felt that they didn’t feel as cheap as we thought they would.

Both smartphones contain identical specs, but Meizu M1 Note excelles in some features over the Xiaomi Mi 4i- like the Bigger screen size, Camera- it has bigger sensor size and that means that the smartphone would let more light in. It also gets more Cores, with Octa Core MediaTek Processor.

Coming onto Xiaomi Mi 4i, the smartphone has better bluetooth compatibility with Bluetooth v4.1 and also overall more pixel density with 441ppi, and lighter experience with weighing just at 130gm.

Furthermore, all the other details will be cleared by the table below that contains all the important specifications of the two smartphones-

Mi Band is a big success in India as well in the entire world. A band that costs just 13 something dollars, to have a 30 day battery life, a military grade accelerometer and swappable straps sounds amazing. When we did our first impressions, we were really amazed to find out such level of precision on the Pedometer and sleep tracking we were amazed.

<blockquote class="wpsm-quote alignnone"style="width:100">
and we were thinking that we are getting the most of the price we are paying. WRONG!

When we heard of YUfit we thought that it would be some another fitness tracker with pedometer and sleep tracking and a price tag of Rs 2000+ but when we looked in deep- we found out that the device is much better than the competition and carries the same familiar price tag, Rs 999.

Device Does : Steps Tracking, Sleep Tracking, Distance Walked, Calories Burnt, Time, Incoming Calls, Incoming Messages and Find My Phone Functions.

Whats are the key difference between YUfit and Mi Band?

The biggest is the Display. YU Televenturers took the game onto an all new level when they unveiled this wearable with a screen and the same price as the Mi band.

Other specs such as battery life etc remain mystery for the time being and so we possibly can’t comment on that but we will update the posts as soon as we get some new insights. With what we know right now, Yufit is leading in the game with the screen and it seems that only battery can make things more complicated right now.

In this post, we are going to compare the best guys in town and we are pretty sure you all know who they are – Samsung’s S6, HTC’s One M9 and the latest LG’s G4. They are the best in-class android smartphone that anyone can buy in the world. We are pretty sure that all of us wants to know the king of them all. The device which is best of best, which is the coolest of all, Carries the best specifications, has the best camera and gets smooth updates.

But when it comes to finding the best out of many- it’s difficult. People tend to have different choices and expectations, for example there are people who are willing to give up battery for Ultimate Performance or people who just need the best smartphone camera. So here the choices are difficult and confusing. For this problem we will compare the major features and tell you (in specifications) who perform better. Please note that our analysis here is based on paper specifications of the device and not on the real world analysis, as the G4 has just launched we can’t comment on the real life performance.

Camera

Is the biggest judgment here- with OIS, Laser Autofocus-Phase Detection, Dual LED Flash, f-number- f/1.8 & f/1.9 and many other variables such as sensor size and many others will affect your decision. Lower f-number indicate more light can come in and helps it to be sharper. Samsung has f/1.9 and the LG has it at f/1.8- the choices are not very clear here as both are on the same scale (negligible difference) but this also means that you will get a better low light photography with G4 then the S6.

Battery

is more on the LG side with Official Quick charge support and a 3000mAh battery.

Display

It’s debatable, with HTC going out of question with FHD resolution- Samsung and LG both have QHD 2560 x 1440px but with different screen sizes, Samsung has a 5.1 inch and LG has 5.5 inch. With changes in screen sizes their densities changes to 557ppi and 538ppi respectively. Who wins here will depend upon the user, if the user wants a standard 5 incher or a bigger and less-compact

Processing Power

Processing power is nothing to worry with the three, Samsung has its own in-house manufacturing Exynos 7420 – 14nm processed chipset capable of 70k Antutu whereas HTC goes for Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and LG opts for Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. Samsung will win this fight due to higher benchmarking scores. Please note that not every application has the coding and capability to use the device at its fullest- like benchmarking apps do so it would not really affect the real life performance in day to day activities and applications.
